Swift Satire Best Part

I think that the section of Gulliver's travels that most definitely singles out the human flaws is the Houyhnhnms section for two reasons.  This section not only uses Gulliver as a tool to create satire, but this section also makes Gulliver the butt of the joke as well.  The Houyhnhnms, being incredible horse people made only of reason can be used to both show how humans are really just pure evil.  But the again, Gulliver being a human turns on his own species.  Both of these aspects of the section are used to criticize how a human is full of vice, and how humans get so incredibly side tracked into their own endeavors that they forget about what is going on in their lives around them, ruining the connections that they have made.

Beginning with Houyhnhnms, the Houyhnhnms are used to show where humans went wrong.  The horse people are full of only virtue.  This means that everything in their society has some sort of reason.  Their decisions are never influenced by emotion, so everything goes perfectly all the time.  In one aspect, this is great because there is no lying, corruption, or betrayal in their society.  When Gulliver describes Europe and the human race to his master, he begins to realize how awful humans are.  He notices that humans have reason, except they use it simply for evil.  He realizes that lawyers, priests, ministers, and doctors are all in it for money and power.  People commit crimes, and act out of vice to get their way instead of cooperating.  But, while the Houyhnhnms are an example "perfection" Gulliver does seem to get a little bit carried away.

Gulliver thinks that the Houyhnhnms are perfect.  He then begins to hate his own race...and even himself.  He hates that he looks like a yahoo, and he hates that his reason is simply used for the benefit of himself whatever means it may take.  Gulliver gets so carried away that he won't speak to humans, or even be around his family.  Gulliver is a perfect example of somebody who gets too invested in themselves and their studies.  Gulliver has a happy family with a wife and kids.  He has money and a nice home, but he lets his studies interfere with everything.  It shows how people are too easily influenced and distracted from their lives to be appreciative for what they have been given or what they have already achieved.
